Dave Strandberg

In 1964, I took a part time announcing job on my hometown radio station WATK in Antigo, Wisconsin. I thought it would be a fun way to earn a little money while waiting for a "real job" to come along. It's hard to believe that I've spent all this time doing something that I really enjoy and I'm very thankful for the opportunities that radio has provided me over the years. I ended up in the Twin Ports and got married to my lovely wife in large part because of Vice President Hubert Humphrey. It's a long story but a phone call from the V-P to the Base Commander at Wright Patterson Air Force base in Ohio got the wheels turning to have me transferred here while I was in the service. After four years in the Air Force, I spent over 20 years at WAKX in Duluth including over ten years as part of the "RJ and Dave" morning show. Since 1992, I've been on the air and in the newsroom here at KDAL. It's always tough rolling out of bed so early in the morning, but I still get a rush out of informing and entertaining everyone out there in "radio-land". I've met and worked with some great people over the years and everyday is a new adventure as my search for a "real job" continues.

From dairy farmer to “shootin' the bull”....that's my story. I've been at it most of the time since 1964. I am really retired, but since I need to fund my extravagant lifestyle, I choose to show up at Midwest Communications....talk an hour or so a day, and check my bank account every two weeks to make sure the check is still being deposited.

My radio career started in Long Prairie, MN at KEYL. My radio days also included stop in Wadena (17 years at KWAD), Cloquet, Crookston/Grand Forks, and Duluth (since 1989). My time is Duluth has been split between the 15 years at a radio station that will remain unnamed and the past 7 or so at KDAL (remember, I'm retired).

Doris and I have been married for 54 years, 6 months, and 17 days (5/18/11). We have 5 children and 5 grandchildren, all of which know how to operate electronic equipment far better than I ever will.

I graduated from Osakis, MN High School.....Go Silverstreaks!! I have an unbelievable log on college campus appearances....unfortunately none of which were in a college classroom. If you want to test my taste buds, try chicken fixed any way! When I'm not working I'm trying to learn that it's alright to just do nothing (did I mention I'm retired). My favorite music is performed by Frankie Yankovic, The St. Olaf College Choir, and Lady Gaga (go figure that combination).
