(Washington, D.C.) -- Senator Al Franken is co-sponsoring legislation that would strengthen penalties imposed on companies or individuals that knowingly violate food safety standards and endanger lives. In 2009, three Minnesotans died after eating contaminated peanut butter. If passed the new law would allow prosecutors to seek a prison sentence of up to ten years for people who knowingly place contaminated food products in the nation's food supply.
