KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- About 150 people turned out for the third town-hall forum on the Oil spill cleanup last night at the Kalamazoo County Fairgrounds.
They received a slide presentation with before and after pictures of what the Talmadge Creek and the River looked like slathered in oil, and how they look now that the bulk of the oil is gone.
The EPA’s Mark Durno says the work that remains is the painstaking hand to hand detail work on the banks and the swamps.
For the first time at one of these forums, we have heard from a Kalamazoo Official. Health Department Director Linda Buzas says her staff is now trained to monitor air and water bourn contaminants and have a contingency plan ready to go should the need arise.
So far Kalamazoo County has been spared, and clean-up officials say barring a major unforeseen catastrophe, it will stay that way.
