(Minneapolis, MN)  --  Thursday's strike deadline looms for Twin Cities hospitals and their 12-thousand nurses. Hospital spokeswoman Maureen Schriner says they will be hiring temporary staff to cover the one-day strike. Federal law prohibits the firing of any of the nurses who walk the picket lines. Talks between the nurses union and the hospitals broke down again last week.  The battle for a new three-year contract mostly centers on nurse-patient ratios and hospital scheduling.
