(St. Paul, MN) -- Democrats at the state legislature have unveiled an important part of their budget-balancing plan. They want to cut state aid to cities and counties, but the dollar reductions would be less than half those requested by Governor Pawlenty. Senate Tax Committee Chairman Tom Bakk says cities and counties already took about a 300-million-dollar reduction under the governor's budget unallotments and he's against quote, "Piling another 250 (million dollars) on top of 'em." Pawlenty spokesman Brian McClung wants to know where the Democrats' budget balancing plan is, saying he thinks they will go quote, "until the last week of the legislative session, then they come out with a big tax increase, then they try to pass it at 12-midnight on the last day of the session." The governor has repeatedly said he won't support any tax increases.
