DETROIT, Mich. (WTAQ) - Wisconsin went back to having a mild winter this year – and the water levels in the Great Lakes are lower because of it. That’s what the Army Corps of Engineers tells the Detroit News.
Meteorologists say the overall water levels are down from the same time a year ago. And we’re returning to the trend which plagued the Great Lakes for about a decade, in which commercial shippers could not carry full loads due to more shallow waters.
Also, the lower levels have hurt marinas, lakeside boat owners, and others. Great Lakes water volumes rose the past 2 years due to colder weather, with more heavy snows in the region.
