UNDATED (KDAL) – Although illegal drug use is getting a lot of attention recently and claims the lives of hundreds of Minnesotans, deaths from alcohol related causes each year is at 1700 with little public attention.
During National Alcohol Awareness Month, the Minnesota Department of Human Services is encouraging everyone to find out about the dangers of excessive drinking and the help that is available for those who need it.
For healthy adults, men who drink more than four alcoholic beverages a day and women who drink more than three a day are identified as having a chronic alcohol disorder.
Human Services Commissioner Tony Lourey says alcohol abuse is rampant in society but the good news is that people can and do recover by using the available treatment programs.
