CLOQUET, MN (CBS-3) – According to a Facebook post, the Cloquet Area Fire District (CAFD) says crews are working on a plan for clean up after a BNSF coal train derailed in the area Saturday.
The post says the area’s Battalion Cheif Jesse Buhs attended a Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Emergency Operation meeting Sunday morning with Tribal, FDL law enforcement, St. Louis County Emergency Management, and Railroad representatives to review the plan for mitigation and clean up of a train derailment and spillage of approximately 5,130 tons of coal that happened just north of Cloquet.
According to the post, the incident happened just north of Pine Island on the St. Louis River. It says, six of the 38 derailed cars were on the ice.
In the post, it says the CAFD will continue to work with agency representatives throughout the process to ensure safe mitigation and that fire, rescue, and EMS resources are readily available.
The incident happened Saturday morning around 11:30.
