SUPERIOR, WI (KDAL) – The Lake Superior National Estuarine Research Reserve, with support from the University of Wisconsin System Board of Regents, has finalized an agreement with the U-S Coast Guard during any emergency responses in the area.
The agreement includes the Coast Guard Marine Safety Office in Duluth, the UW-Superior Administration and the UW Division of Extension that administers the Lake Superior Reserve.
When needed, in times of disaster response, the Coast Guard would have priority access to the classroom meeting space in the Estuarium on Barker’s Island.
The location on the shore would allow the Coast Guard an ideal location for critical work during a crisis or large scale disaster on Lake Superior or the Duluth-Superior Harbor.
