DULUTH, MN (CBS-3) – After last year’s above normal snowfall led to street clearing issues, the City of Duluth had planned to begin a new snow emergency ordinance this year with signs to display emergency routes and parking information.
That plan has been put on hold until next year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Instead, the city has developed a new regulations for this winter season. All the information on parking, sidewalk clearing and plowing will be coming to Duluth residents by mail starting November 1st.
Under the new plan, the city will now take complaints regarding uncleared sidewalks on their website after 24 hours. Homeowners will receive a warning that they need to clear the sidewalk. If not taken care of, the city will take action.
Additionally, those who don’t move their parked cars to the opposite side of the road every week will face tickets and coordinating tows.
The new guidelines are meant to help make the streets more accessible for those needing to get around this winter.
Because of limited staffing during the pandemic, residents are asked to submit road clearing complaints online instead of calling.
The plowing schedule has main roads being cleared first, followed by residential streets and then alleys.
