DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – As the multi year project to replace the Duluth “can of worms” gets underway, several traffic impacts are set to begin this week.
On Monday, the intersection of Piedmont and West 1st Street will close and traffic will be detoured. Also Monday, the ramp from northbound I-35 to eastbound I-535 will temporarily close for inspection between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m with motorists being detoured.
Starting Tuesday, northbound I-35 traffic from 27th Avenue West to Garfield Avenue will be reduced to a single lane. The ramp from northbound I-35 to northbound Highway 53 will permanently close until new ramps for the Twin Ports Interchange open in the fall of 2023.
Also on Tuesday, the ramp from Garfield Avenue to northbound I-535 will close between 9 a-m and 3 p-m for guardrail repair.
On Thursday, the ramp from southbound Highway 53 to southbound I-35 will permanently close until a new ramp opens in 2023.
More ramp and lane closures along with other traffic impacts are likely as the project continues.
