DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – Over 3.2 million short tons of cargo was handled by the Port of Duluth-Superior for the second consecutive month in May.
Nearly every major cargo category finished the month ahead of the five season average.
Port activity topped the pandemic plagued pace of 2020 by nearly 40 percent.
Duluth Seaway Port Authority Executive Director Deb DeLuca says the good early season will “hopefully be a harbinger of continued post pandemic economic recovery.”
According to the Chamber of Marine Commerce, U-S Great Lakes ports and the St. Lawrence Seaway also reported sharp increases in volumes of iron ore and construction materials in May.
