Trea Turner went 4-for-4 and hit for the cycle for the third time in his career to lead the host Washington Nationals to a 15-6 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays on Wednesday.
Turner’s triple in the sixth inning off Michael Wacha made him the fourth player in the major leagues’ modern era (since 1900) to post three career cycles. Adrian Beltre, Bob Meusel and Babe Herman accomplished the feat before Turner, who was celebrating his 28th birthday Wednesday.
While diving into third base for his triple, Turner jammed his left little finger, and he exited for a pinch hitter an inning later. He is listed as day-to-day.
Washington’s Juan Soto went 3-for-5 with two RBIs and Josh Bell went 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Soto was replaced on defense in the ninth after he was seen grabbing his left hamstring area following his final at-bat.
Cardinals 7, Diamondbacks 4
Pitcher Kwang Hyun Kim hit a two-run double and also earned the victory as St. Louis defeated visiting Arizona to complete a three-game sweep.
Kim (2-5) allowed one run on three hits over five innings with three walks and five strikeouts. Alex Reyes pitched a scoreless ninth inning for his 20th save in 20 opportunities. Tyler O’Neill and Paul Goldschmidt each had two doubles among their three hits for the Cardinals.
Riley Smith (1-4) allowed four runs on seven hits in three innings for the Diamondbacks, who finished June with a 3-24 record.
Brewers 15, Cubs 7
Milwaukee was down seven runs at home before stepping to the plate. It did not seem to matter, as the Brewers scored 14 of their own in the next four innings and swept Chicago.
The Brewers scored one in the bottom of the first frame, five in the second and eight in the fourth en route to sending the Cubs to their sixth consecutive loss.
Milwaukee, which has won eight straight, chased Chicago starter Jake Arrieta in the second after pulling within a run.
Rockies 6, Pirates 2
C.J. Cron homered, Garrett Hampson had four hits and host Colorado beat Pittsburgh.
Brendan Rodgers had two hits and Raimel Tapia scored twice and stole a base for the Rockies, who swept the three-game series from the Pirates.
Bryan Reynolds homered and had two hits and Adam Frazier also had two hits for Pittsburgh, which managed just 12 hits in the series.
