DULUTH, MN (KDAL-CBS-3) – The Duluth Fire Department battled a blaze at the Esmond Building (the former Seaway Hotel) on Monday morning.
Crews found a heavy amount of fire on the first floor of the building at 2001 West Superior Street when they arrived around 7:36 a-m.
Within the hour, fire extended to the 2nd floor toward the rear of the structure and crews were pulled from the building because of unsafe conditions.
Units from the Superior Fire Department were also requested to provide mutual aid in fighting the blaze and surround buildings were evacuated.
The building, that is slated for demolition, has seen several smaller fires in recent weeks.
