DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – At their meeting Tuesday, the St. Louis County Board approved a 23.9 million dollar contract to replace 21 bridges and box culverts over the next three years.
Money for the project comes from a variety of sources including 11.5 million from federal funding programs.
The average age of the bridges to be replaced is 75 years and seven have limited weight restrictions.
Board Chair Paul McDonald says the project will greatly improve the quality of the county’s bridge system especially for heavier commercial vehicles.
St. Louis County Public Works is responsible for maintaining 3,000 miles of road and 600 bridges across the county.
