WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The U.S. Transportation Department on Friday plans to unveil revised tougher fuel economy requirements reversing the prior administration’s rollback, officials said.
In August, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) proposed hiking requirements by 8% annually for the 2024 through 2026 model years. The department said Tuesday that Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg and NHTSA Deputy Administrator Steven Cliff “will make a major announcement on fuel economy standards” on Friday.
