DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – A winter that lingered too long has slowed tonnage shipped through the Port of Duluth-Superior so far.
Through April 30th, total tonnage was down by 38 percent.
Iron ore remains the top cargo by tonnage, but dropped 42 percent from a year ago and 34 percent compared to the five season average.
On a more positive note, grain shipments nearly doubled from the 2021 pace and topped the five season average by 24 percent.
Overall, Great Lakes cargo shipments via the St. Lawrence Seaway were down by 18 percent compared to the same period of a year ago.
