DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – The Minnesota Department of Transportation is installing Road Weather Information Systems at ten locations in the region.
The sensors will be placed this week on highways in Aitkin, Carlton, Cook, Itasca, Lake and St. Louis Counties and flagging operations will be used to control traffic during the installations.
The environmental sensor stations are used to collect weather data, pavement conditions and visibility.
The information from the stations and camera images are relayed to MnDOT for help in making timely maintenance decisions.
