WASHINGTON (Reuters) – U.S. Representative Nancy Mace won the Republican nomination for a South Carolina congressional seat, Edison Research projected on Tuesday, beating out opponent Katie Arrington who was backed by former President Donald Trump.
Mace has been one of Trump’s top targets since she voted to certify the 2020 election results making Joe Biden’s presidential victory official. She will face a Democratic opponent in the Nov. 8 midterm election, though analysts view the seat as safely Republican.
“We didn’t pull it off tonight,” Arrington was quoted as saying to her supporters by local media after she conceded to Mace.
