SUPERIOR, WI (KDAL) – Superior firefighters and public works crews spent most of Saturday afternoon and evening battling a blaze that broke out in the municipal landfill.
The fire produced a lot of smoke that was carried by winds toward Lake Superior and did not impact city residents.
The fire was extinguished by late Saturday although crews remained on the scene covering the smoldering materials with sand.
The cause of the fire is undetermined.
Meanwhile, all available Superior engine companies were called to a garage fire in the 300 block of East 5th Street at 9 p-m Saturday.
Crews arrived to find a detached garage totally involved in fire and starting to spread to another adjacent garage.
A significant amount of water was needed to extinguish the blaze.
The garage and a race car inside were a total loss with damages estimated at 30 thousand dollars, the adjacent garage had just minor damage.
The cause of that fire is under investigation.
