DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – Earlier this month, a baby cotton-top tamerin was born at the Lake Superior Zoo in Duluth.
Currently listed as a critically endangered species, the zoo’s CEO, Haley Hedstrom says the birth is an extraordinary event and something to celebrate.
During the last several weeks, paper covered the windows of the exhibit in the Primate Conservation Center to allow the new parents time to adjust in caring for the new member of the family.
The paper has now been removed and the exhibit is fully viewable.
The infant’s gender is not currently known.
The Lake Superior Zoo participates in the Species Survival Plan through the Association of Zoos and Aquariums with a goal of responsibly breeding vulnerable and endangered animals.
