SUPERIOR, WI (KDAL) – After a successful fundraising campaign, a catamaran that will be used by UWS for research on Lake Superior is now under construction.
The floating classroom, designed by Incat Crowther, is being built in Louisiana and will be sailed to Superior after ice-out in the spring of 2024.
The ship will allow the Lake Superior Research Institute to expand their freshwater research and provide more opportunities for students and community members to connect with Lake Superior.
University of Wisconsin-Superior Chancellor, Renee Wachter, says the multi-use vessel will be constructed and equipped completely with private funding thanks to the generosity of the Swenson Family Foundation.
