DULUTH, MN (Northern News Now) – Duluth’s Garfield Avenue was back open Monday afternoon after crews helped remove a large truck that was stuck near the intersection with Helberg Drive.
According to MnDOT officials, the road was closed to traffic about 11:50 a-m and was back open about an hour later.
The large truck was detoured due to construction on the Garfield Avenue Interchange at I-535 which is now under construction.
Construction on that portion of the Twin Ports Interchange project began a few weeks ago.
It was originally supposed to begin in 2020 along with the rest of the project, but a gap in funding delayed construction until special funding was secured earlier this year.
Ultimately, the projects aims to expedite the shipping process, allowing over sized loads to go directly from the port to the interstate without having to navigate city streets.
