FREDENBURG TOWNSHIP, MN (KDAL) – The St. Louis County Emergency Response Team made an arrest of a 60 year old man on Friday night following a stand-off at his residence on the Taft Road in Fredenburg Township.
According to the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Department, the incident began on Thursday when a barn and a shed on the property were on fire.
Responding firefighters were not allowed on the scene as the suspect was firing a gun outside in a negligent manner.
The buildings were destroyed and the man, who was experiencing mental health problems, admitted to friends and family that he set the fire.
Later in the day, deputies spotted a vehicle being driven by the suspect and attempted to stop it. He fled at a high rate of speed and returned to his home when the Emergency Response Team was called.
During the execution of a search warrant, the suspect was taken into custody and cooperated with deputies.
The Sheriff’s Office thanked family and friends of the suspect for their cooperation in the potentially volatile situation.
There were no injuries and the man was taken to a hospital for a mental health evaluation. He faces several charges when released from the hospital.
