DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – The Lake Superior Zoo in Duluth has announced that a former resident polar bear has died.
Berlin, at 33 years old, was the oldest polar bear in human care in the U-S and was living at the Kansas City Zoo for the last ten years.
Berlin and another polar bear, Bubba, were featured at the Lake Superior Zoo’s Polar Shores exhibit starting in 1990.
Following the flood in June of 2012, the habitat was damaged beyond repair and the bear was sent to the Como Zoo before moving on to Kansas City.
Berlin was diagnosed with an incurable disease several months ago and her health declined significantly during the past week.
