DULUTH, MN (Northern News Now) – Former City Councilor and State Senator Roger Reinert announced Thursday morning his candidacy for Mayor of Duluth.
Reinert made the announcement at the Piedmont Heights Community Club.
He served as a Duluth City Councilor from 2004 to 2009 and later as Minnesota State Senator in District 7B from 2009 to 2011.
Reinert was also the Interim Director of the DECC from June 2020 until May 2021 and is a veteran Naval Officer.
In his prepared remarks, Reinert shared three main motivations to run. His love of Duluth, the challenges facing the community and a lack of focus on core city services.
Current Mayor Emily Larson announced her bid for re-election in December.
If any other candidates join the race, a primary would be held in August with the election in November.
The mayor’s office is non-partisan.
