DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – The U-S Department of Agriculture is providing a nearly 900 thousand dollar grant to St. Louis County to mitigate wildfire risks.
The county’s proposal was one of a hundred projects selected nationwide to get funding from the Wildfire Defense Grant Program.
The funding will be used to assist fire departments, township boards and other groups to increase wildfire awareness and reduce fuels.
It will also allow for an expansion of the Firewise Program which assists property owners adjacent to federal lands in steps they can take to reduce their wildfire risk.
