UNDATED (KDAL) – The Memorial Day weekend typically begins the summer boating season across the region.
The Minnesota and Wisconsin Departments of Natural Resources are urging everyone on the water to play it safe and wear a life jacket.
They also need to be in good condition and fit properly.
Before going out on the water for the first time this season, check that all the safety equipment such as navigation lights and fire extinguishers are operational.
The single biggest reason for boating accidents is operating the boat under the influence. Leave the alcohol and other intoxicants on shore.
Keep in mind during busy boat traffic, your wake could have consequences and present a danger to others in the water. Slow down and be courteous to boaters and anglers.
