DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – The Minnesota Public Utilities Commission (MPUC) has approved the interim 8.6 percent rate increase for Minnesota Power customers.
The increase will take effect in January and will continue until a decision is made on a proposed 12 percent increase.
The power company says the monthly bill for the average residential customer will increase by about 8 dollars while the interim rate is in effect.
The full rate proposal, if approved, would increase Minnesota Power’s annual operating revenue by 89 million dollars to help advance their clean energy transition goal of being 70 percent renewable by the year 2030.
Minnesota Power says the increase is also needed to hire and retain the workforce necessary to preserve reliable electric service to homes and businesses in the region.
The regulatory review by the MPUC on the final rate increase request could take up to 18 months and will include an opportunity for public feedback.
