DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – Pending approval by the Board of Regents, Dr. Charles Nies has been named as chancellor of the University of Minnesota Duluth effective on July 1st.
Dr. Nies currently serves as Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs at the University of California, Merced.
Having grown up in Minnesota, Dr. Nies says he is excited to join the Duluth and University of Minnesota communities and views it as a “coming home opportunity.”
He comes to UMD with over 25 years of experience in higher education and has had positions at Miami University in Ohio and at Washington State University.
Dr. Nies has a doctorate in education administration and a master’s in counseling psychology.
He will succeed Interim Chancellor David McMillan who replaced Lendley Black at UMD who retired in the summer of 2021.
