DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – The 109 year old Duluth Armory on London Road will undergo a 58 million dollar transformation into a multi-purpose attraction that will feature music, education, history and food.
The building will house a variety of nonprofit and business tenants.
The partnership of Sherman and Associates and the Armory Arts and Music Center (AAMC) will begin work this summer with completion expected in early 2026.
The building was constructed in 1915 as a training center for the Minnesota National Guard. The Armory also served as a community center and hosted public events and performances which included the Winter Dance Party with Buddy Holly in 1959.
In 1978, the City of Duluth bought the facility for use as a public works garage.
In 2002, the Armory Arts and Music Center acquired the building as a future cultural venue and began some rehabilitation work.
The AAMC Board of Directors have named Mark Poirier, Michelle Miller and Shawna Weaver as co-executive directors.
