DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – Much of the Northland saw 2 to 5 inches of rain in just a few hours on Tuesday and Tuesday night.
The rain caused water to flow over roadways, flood low lying areas and pushed rivers and streams over their banks.
Several roads were closed for a time overnight including portions of Highways 169 and 53 on the Range, Highway 61 up the North Shore and the I-35 tunnels in Duluth. Part of Highway 13 in Bayfield County remained closed on Wednesday morning.
Even though rain has moved out of the area, rivers will continue to rise from runoff and a Flood Warning is in effect until 4 p-m Wednesday for parts of Cook, Lake and St. Louis Counties in Minnesota.
A Flash Flood Warning was issued for Douglas, Bayfield and Ashland Counties in Wisconsin until early Wednesday morning.
Another round of showers and thunderstorms is forecasted for Friday and Saturday in the region.
