SUPERIOR, WI (KDAL) – The City of Superior’s Environmental Services Division is announcing a stream monitoring volunteer opportunity.
An open house for interested residents, students, organizations, church groups or other volunteers will be held Thursday at Central Park in Superior.
The event will include a talk on water quality and a demonstration of the stream monitoring practices at Faxon Creek.
The creek is an urban stream and the only one contained completely within the city limits.
Volunteers will get all the equipment, training and oversight needed to sample water in the stream between May and October each year.
Faxon is one of seven named streams that flow through Superior and most of the runoff from parking lots, streets and sidewalks eventually makes its way into these streams that flow into the lake.
Monitoring the health of these waterways can help the city better understand what land use practices might be negatively impacting local streams.
The stream monitoring open house will be from 5:30 to 6:30 on Thursday in Central Park.
