ST. PAUL, MN (KDAL) – The Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA) has confirmed that the invasive emerald ash borer (EAB) has been found in a new location in Lake County and also appeared in Jackson County for the first time.
The original quarantine location in Lake County has now been expanded to include townships in the southern half of the county.
The quarantine limits the movements of firewood and ash material out of the area to reduced the risk of spreading the tree killing insect.
EAB was first discovered in Minnesota in 2009. The insect larvae kills ash trees by tunneling under the bark and feeding on the part of the tree that moves nutrients up and down the trunk.
A virtual informational meeting will be held for Jackson and Lake Counties on September 25th from 10 to 11 a-m. Experts will give a brief presentation followed by a question and answer session.
