DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – It has been a good year for grain shipments through the St. Lawrence Seaway so far in 2024.
The Great Lakes St. Lawrence Seaway Development Corporation says there has been 5.2 metric tons of Canadian and U-S grain traffic through the end of August, up 5.6 percent from a year ago.
In the Twin Ports, wheat exports have more than tripled from last year’s pace and bulk cargo has also been a highlight of the Duluth-Superior shipping season.
The Duluth Seaway Port Authority has invested over 50 million dollars in improvements and expansion of the Clure Public Marine Terminal since 2015 which includes a dock expansion project this summer that will increase vessel berthing capacity.
Leading the way system wide, shipments of iron and steel through Great Lakes ports this summer was at 1.3 million metric tons, up by 35 percent from a year ago.
