DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – Two hikers who lost their way while hiking in the woods at Bear Head State Park Saturday evening were found by St. Louis County Sheriff Deputies and Rescue Squad members.
One of the hikers called 9-1-1 looking for assistance but responding deputies were unable to make contact due to poor cell phone coverage in the area.
The Sheriff’s Dispatch center was able to get the GPS coordinates from the original call and deputies were able to locate the hikers in a very remote area by using a drone.
Neither of the hikers were injured but they were not prepared to spend the night in the woods and were unfamiliar with the Park’s rough terrain.
Bear Head State Park is located between the cities of Tower and Ely.
