ST. PAUL, MN (KDAL) – According to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR), the upcoming firearms deer season should present a good opportunity to harvest a deer in most areas of the state.
About 400,000 deer hunters are expected to participate in the season that begins on November 9th.
Deer populations are increasing in southern parts of the state and remain robust and highly productive in central Minnesota.
Despite a mild 2023-24 winter, deer populations in northeast Minnesota are still low and will likely take multiple years to recover from several severe winters in prior years.
The DNR says the best hunting in the northeast will be in the southern part of the region where deer numbers are higher.
Hunters should know the deer permit area number for where they plan to hunt prior to buying a license and ensure they understand the chronic wasting disease regulations and sampling options for that area.
