A horror show of a first period preceded what turned into a far-from-boring series opener on Friday. Minnesota jumped all over UMD, taking a 4-0 lead and outshooting the home team 23-4 in the first 20 minutes. The teams traded goals in the second period before UMD attempted a valiant comeback that would fall two goals short in a wild 7-5 Minnesota win.
More shuffling of the deck by UMD. Jayson Shaugabay joins Zam Plante on Dominic James’ wings. Carter Loney rejoins Joe Molenaar and Jack Smith, while Blake Bechen gets a chance alongside Callum Arnott. The back end is resorted as well, with Riley Bodnarchuk drawing in for his season debut as the seventh defenseman.
Minnesota swaps goalies for a second straight weekend, with Penn State transfer Liam Souliere getting the nod after Nathan Airey went on Friday. John Mittelstadt draws in for August Falloon up front for the only skater change.
