MADISON, WI (KDAL) – Preliminary figures from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) shows an increase in the number of hunters and deer harvested statewide during the nine day gun deer season in November.
There were just over 791 thousand deer hunting licenses sold in 2024, a slight increase from the same time period last year.
Hunters registered 189,622 deer during the gun hunting season which was up 5.2 percent from 2023.
In the Northern Forest Zone there was an 8.7 percent increase in the number of does taken while the buck harvest was down by 1.8 percent from a year ago.
The biggest increase in hunter success was in the Central Farmland Zone, up by nine percent, while the Southern Farmland Zone saw a 3 percent decrease.
