HERMANTOWN, MN (Northern News Now) – Former Minnesota State Representative Mary Murphy has died at the age of 85.
Minnesota Speaker of the House Melissa Hortman relayed the news on a Facebook post on Wednesday.
According to Hortman, Murphy suffered a stroke last week and a series of complications since then.
Mary Murphy was first elected to the legislature in 1976 before losing a close District 3B race to Republican Natalie Zeleznikar in 2022.
Murphy was the second-longest-serving legislator in Minnesota history, and the longest-serving female lawmaker in St. Paul.
