LAKE KABETOGAMA, MN (KDAL) – A tracked side by side UTV was pulling a fish house onto Lake Kabetogama Monday evening when it broke through the ice.
The occupant of the UTV, a 64 year old man from the area, was partially submerged in the water and was able to escape through the removable windshield and onto stable ice.
He was evaluated by ambulance personnel for exposure and other minor injuries and was not hospitalized.
The St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office is reminding the public that recent mild temps and rain has affected ice conditions and recommend avoiding traveling on ice at night or during reduced visibilities, avoid inlets, outlets, pressure ridges and narrows with currents underneath and don’t travel on the ice alone.
