DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – For years, local anglers thought the “structure” in the Spirit Lake area of the St. Louis River was a piece of a dock that washed away in the 2012 flood.
When a recent sonar exploration determined it was a vehicle and not knowing if anyone was inside, a recovery operation began.
After being pulled from the water, it turns out the Jeep was empty except for a dozen or so fish that had taken up residence inside.
A variety of agencies took part in the recovery operation including the St. Louis County Rescue Squad, Sheriff Deputies, the Superior-Douglas County Dive Team, the Duluth Police Department and Duke’s Towing.
How the vehicle ended up in the river for the last 13 years is still to be determined.
