DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – On January 21st an approximately one week old infant was dropped off by someone at the Safe Haven Shelter in Duluth.
An initial 911 call indicated the baby was left outside in sub zero temperatures but that information was not accurate. Police say the infant was left inside with staff from the shelter.
The investigation is focused on identifying the person who dropped off the infant, their relation to the baby and aiding any potential reunification.
Police are working with the St. Louis County Initial Intervention Unit.
The incident does not fall under the state’s Safe Haven law which allows infants to be anonymously dropped off at places such as hospitals and urgent care facilities but not shelters or resource centers.
The infant is healthy and with a foster family.
Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact the police by calling 911.
