DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – Just in time for the John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon that starts Sunday, snow is on the way for the arrowhead of northeast Minnesota.
The National Weather Service Office in Duluth has issued a Winter Storm Warning for Cook and northern Lake Counties from 9 p-m Thursday through noon on Friday.
The warning includes Tribal lands of the Grand Portage Reservation and the eastern and central Boundary Waters area.
Snow is expected to accumulate from 4 to 9 inches with higher amounts up to 11 inches possible.
Travel in that region could be very difficult with hazardous road conditions.

FRIDAY MORNING UPDATE: The system has moved further north and predicted snow totals have decreased to around 2 to 4 inches. The Winter Storm Warning continues due to blowing and drifting snow in strong NW winds.
