It’s Senior Night for UMD, but the Bulldogs continue to ride their strong freshman class to the successes found in this season.
On Friday, it was freshman Ty Hanson getting the puck to the net for sophomore Braden Fischer to score in the first period. Then freshman Max Plante found freshman Callum Arnott down low on the power play to give UMD the lead.
After Miami tied the game in the third period, it was freshman Adam Gajan making a great save that used basically his entire wingspan to rob the RedHawks of a go-ahead goal.
Then in overtime, freshman Max Plante made a world-class pass to set up junior Jack Smith for the winning goal.
Arnott’s goal gives UMD 41 goals by freshmen this season. Throw in goals scored by players who have eligibility beyond this season, and the Bulldogs could see 64 of the 85 goals (75 percent, basically) scored this season to return next fall.
No lineup changes for UMD. Zam Plante and Klayton Knapp remain out with injuries. If you didn’t catch it from Matt Wellens on Wednesday, freshman forward Trevor Stachowiak has been ruled out for the season after suffering a lower body injury in practice during the Thanksgiving week bye.
