ST. PAUL, MN (KDAL) – The Minnesota Department of Agriculture has identified 13 sites in the eastern part of the state to get gypsy moth treatments this spring.
Over 136 thousand acres including parts of Carlton, St. Louis and Lake Counties are proposed for treatments that will be conducted from May through July depending on the weather.
Portions of the cities of Duluth, Proctor and Two Harbors are included and residents affected will be notified by postcard.
The treatments are hoping to slow the spread of the destructive gypsy moth caterpillars that can defoliate large sections of forest.
The pest is now common in Wisconsin and is becoming established in Minnesota.
