DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – A peregrine falcon that hatched seven years ago at a Minnesota Power facility nest was spotted along the Gulf Coast of Texas.
The falcon called Surge was one of three birds that hatched at the Hibbard Renewable Energy Center in May of 2014 was identified in a Texas photo that was posted on a Facebook page.
Surge has been nesting near the Split Rock Lighthouse each year since 2019 and has raised five chicks.
Over the years, more than 110 falcons have hatched and were banded at nest boxes attached to stacks located at Minnesota Power facilities in Duluth and Cohasset.
Besides Texas, peregrine falcons raised in northeastern Minnesota have been found wintering in Florida, the Gulf of Mexico and in Central America.
