OMAHA, Neb. — A big opportunity awaits UMD here. It’s hard to sweep anyone, anywhere, but it’s especially hard to sweep an NCHC series on the road.
UMD could send us into midseason chaos with a victory. If the Bulldogs, Western Michigan (vs North Dakota), and Colorado College (vs Denver) all win in regulation, the NCHC will have a four-way tie at the top of the table, with UMD, North Dakota, Denver, and Western all at 24 points through 12 league games.
For what we believe to be the first time this season, UMD makes no changes from Friday to Saturday in a weekend. It’s the third straight game where the Bulldogs have the same skater lineup, easily a season high.
Three remains UMD’s magic number. The Bulldogs have conceded two or fewer goals in 16 of 23 games this season, posting a 12-2-2 record when they do so. The only win where UMD allowed more than two is the 5-3 win at Minnesota on Oct. 23.
Omaha swapped out defensemen Kirby Proctor and David Pennington, dressing Jason Smallidge as the sixth defenseman and Joey Abate as a 13th forward.
