DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – The Duluth Chief of Police, Mike Tusken, is asking protesters to keep rallies in public or private spaces and off city streets.
Following a large rally in downtown Duluth Monday evening that was protesting the overturning of Roe V. Wade, Tusken made the comments in a Facebook post.
He says the police don’t have the resources to properly secure the route of rallies and marches that don’t have the proper permits.
A crowd, estimated at 400 to 500 people, gathered at 1st Avenue East and 1st Street around 5:30 p-m and then began marching to 6th Avenue West, down to Superior Street and back to 1st Avenue East.
With limited personnel available, police worked to block traffic to ensure the safety of the marchers.
Tusken says they are investigating a vehicle that traveled in and among the marchers and sustained a damaged windshield.
Police told a KBJR reporter that the car did not hit anyone and was trying to leave the area when a protester hit the windshield with a 2×4.
Tusken says a protester admitted to causing the damage and possible charges are pending.
The rally ended and streets were reopened about 8 p-m.
