DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – Minnesota Power and Great River Energy have announced their intent to build a new transmission line from northern Minnesota to the central part of the state.
The 150 mile, 345 kilovolt line would support the electric grid reliability across the upper Midwest.
The utilities are expected to file an intent to construct notice with the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission early in August.
Planning for the 970 million dollar transmission line is in the early stages and the final route has not yet been determined.
The line would run from the Minnesota Power Iron Range substation in Itasca County to a Great River substation in Benton County to a new substation in Sherburne County.
Minnesota Power and Great River Energy will begin coordinating with landowners, local governments, Tribal Nations and other interested parties later this year.
